Single-Acting Hydraulic Cylinders

The workhorse of hydraulic lifting — pressure drives the ram out, and a spring or the load itself brings it back.

How Single-Acting Cylinders Work

In a single-acting cylinder, hydraulic oil is pumped into one side to push the ram out and generate force. When you release the pressure, an internal spring — or gravity and the load — returns the ram to its starting position. It's the simplest, most economical cylinder design, and it handles the vast majority of lifting, jacking and pressing work.

When to Choose Single-Acting

Reach for a single-acting cylinder any time you only need force in one direction: foundation lifting, structural jacking, pressing, bending and general construction. With fewer moving parts, they're rugged, forgiving and easy to service in the field.
